Halong Bay, Hello Laos

Just spent a great few days in Halong Bay exploring Cat Ba Island on a motorcycle and kayaking with these guys. Fate intervened on behalf of my knee as they didn’t have a climbing trip on the days we were around (probably a blessing). We heard lots of nonsense about how you can’t see Halong Bay without a tour. It’s a load of malarky. Someone needs to put a non-path beating/directional ‘how to’ on the web just to dispell this one.

Was welcomed back to Hanoi with a note about the serviced apartment awaiting us in Singapore.  I could do that thing most travelers do where they rant about how ’scary’ it’ll be to get back into ‘civilization’, wear shoes, lose the hemp and part with their Bob Marley T-Shirt (I don’t have one).  I think it’s going to be fabulous.  Hate me all you want.

Off to Laos tomorrow which means we’ll be coated with bug spray and probably out of email contact for the next week or so.  Hope we get to spend some time up in the trees with the Gibbons.
