I just got home from a day in Slough where I presented the same hour of content 7 times. Ice fell from the grey sky outside, Windsor Castle loomed in the distance and my hands narrowly escaped the smelly markers – I can happily say that will be my last bit of proper work for a very long time.
At my ‘moving on’ interview yesterday, I had to give these guys credit for understanding why I’m leaving after almost three years. They’re going through funny phase and at the core of it is a struggle between the small family of a business they once were, the profit driven multinational they’ve become, and their desperate attempts to transfer the value system of the former onto the latter.
I genuinely believe these guys are on the bumpy road to becoming something of a very special business. But for the time being, I can’t be happier about my new job in September, the four month sabbatical in between, and the chance to live someplace that’s both fascinating and very very warm sometime soon.
